can any one tellme if the GRE PSR-600 DIGITAL SCANNER RADIO TRUNKING APCO 25 NEW would be worth looking at i would really love to get uniden but price out of my range at the moment.
I don't beleave the GRE gear is suited to what we use here is australia althrough it can do simaliar things I wouldn't beleave its worth worrying about, and i would hold off and await the release of the UBCD996XT in Australia as it has heaps of new features that are really handy.
Thanks radar better start putting some cash away |

Thats a big IF and WHEN Uniden Aus pull their finger out and actually release an Australian version of the 996XT, or 396XT for that matter. Still waiting for a Firmware upgrade on the current range of Uniden digital scanners in Aus, so i wouldnt hold your breath for a new release anytime soon.

Not wrong about that Nick. The last firmware update is almost 3 years old now and doesn't look as if it will be updated anytime soon.

Uniden to my understanding will NOT be releasing an XT model without the 800mHz block on it. (Making it useless for the rest of the world, due to an outdated law in the US)
As for the U version of the BCD models (U = Aust version) there is no need to upgrade as we haven't got the systems in place that the US needed to upgrade their scanners too.. This might be changing in the near future (I have no factual info on this only hearsay) when Aust puts in place some new systems to make better use of the bandwidth.

For those with cash to spare or just to rack up the credit card debt, Dick Smith are currently selling the 996 and 396 for the listed price of $472.
However there are people that I know of poeple that have purchased one of the units for anywhere between $372 and $235.
NOTE - stocks are getting very hard to find. If you hurry Victoria Gradens (Richmond) has 2 x 996's, Camberwell - 1 of each. Box Hill possibly 2 or so left, Chadstone - same as Box Hill. Chirnside Park - possibly 1 x 996 (2nd hand returned item) & other stores are on a visit/phone basis.
