Monkey see, monkey do.
Fix the "adults" and the kids will follow along.

Don't try to defend needing 200kw to get to work.

Stopping telling all and sundry you need a V8 to tow the boat once a year.

Don't teach the apprentice the importance of a traveller for the trip home.

Don't B.S. on about the good old days and what you got away with when you were younger.

Don't lecture your kids and then drive in a totally contrary manner.

Call a spade a spade in front of your kids, loud and long;
someone who gets blind and kills his mates is criminal garbage
and deserves to be dead, not treated like some sort of half-arsed suburban tragedy.

Shut up and, give up the culture YOU are comfortable with and accept that times have changed.
Kids have access to ludicrously powerful cars and STILL nothing is done about it.
Large numbers of kids have grown up with no idea of consequences
and the only way to protect the rest is to ostracise the nuff-nuffs till they too, catch on.

Forget about drugs, forget about speed,
just teach your kids that hanging out with idiots
is a quick way to die.

In short, teach them to be smarter than us.

Speed limit cars to 135KM/H
There is no reason to why they should go faster !
Does not effect power or anything else, except for drag racing.

Can't tow the boat at that speed, but still fast enough to get a fine !

Double demerits over long weekends for all 3 Point + infringements.

Speeding over 3 year period
Change leeway to a 10% minimum in all areas, but then raise 10% over speed limit to say $ 250 and 3 points.

Do 20Kmh + or over the limit loose car 20 days, 30kmh - 30 days not much more after that as they are speed limited

2nd high speed offence then double the standard
3rd don't crush cars, sell at auction and all money goes to Road Trauma centers, but monetary fine still stands and goes to state revenue.

Drink drivers after 1st offence, weekend detention, 3rd offence, in to the walled city.

Align Culpable Driving charge to a manslaughter charge.

3 strikes rule for the Road Act.

*Spontaneous applause for Thirsty Work's post*

Very tidy :-)

There's another possible solution that will cost nothing to implement, require no more manpower or resources and put full responsibility back in the hands of the driver - Make 'comprehensive' car insurance illegal.

You know it makes sense.

Cool

Speed limit vehicles to say 130Ks and they will still do that speed in a 40ks zone so speed limiting will not work.

Make the speedo makers responceable for a acurate speedo or have the same rate of default on all speed recording devices.

Drink drivers must have an interloc fitted to the car they drive after the first offence for ever and if they dont comply remove them from the road till they do, I know they will still drive but lock them up if caught for double time left on their suspention.

ok guys i have followed the thread for a bit, 1 question all these recomandations you have pointed out speedlimiting cars (remember trucks are speed limited) an other control measures .
do you honestly think its going to stop these kids an other inconsiderate drivers from wreaking their cars an causeing a whole lot of grief for all involved, an my answer to the topic question is simply NO we wll always have road trauma in one form or another some one may die in a car travelling 60kpr with horrific injuries rather then traveling at a higher speed.

look there is no point telling a heap of adults that what they are doing is going to kill them they know, but what needs to be done is target those kids that dont drive yet scare the crapper out of them before they feel the power of a 2ltr dunny basher an think i can handle this. this issue has been an issue for decades an every thing that has been tried has a limited effect maybe its time to look for a long term effictive solution how about we educate our kids before they even start to drive or think about driving, i know some people will say you cant expose kids to that but in essence they see it every night on the news lets re force that.

look if some one wants to drive like an idiot nothing will ever change that no amount of tac adds or speeding fines NOTHING we will just deal with the aftermouth like we always do, but one thing we all can lead by example with the young people we all ready influence.
