When I was stationed in Woomera S.A. it was not uncommon to get :
*CFSRES INC*** DATE TIME RESPOND RCR, 152kM North of LOCATION etc.
Response was sometimes 200kms away from station. A long squirt CODE1...

I cringe at the thought of having an accident so far away from somewhere... That would defiantly suck!

surely an aerial response would be justified. Rescue operators and gear on to fixed wing aircraft and land on the road. Same with paramedics if they don't have a Helimed setup anyway. |

My cousins at Broken Hill routinely got called to accidents as far away as Inaminka and further.
Roll the rescue gear to the airport, chuck it in the Flying Doc's plane and scramble a scratch crew by air with the vehicles to follow by road.
Peace is that all too brief time in History when everybody stops, To Reload... |

You are correct and are commonly responded to by the RFDS, but even they can operate in daylite hours, landing on the road from memory reading an artical about a simular accident in that location, loacl knowlege may say different |

The only recue brigade in Arnham land NT is at Nhulunbuy. Speaking with the Fire Officer there he advised that they have a distance of 400km for the extent of the rescue response area back towards Katherine. Response to Persons Trapped involves loading a rescue kit in the Customs chopper and flying to the site. The chopper is day and night rated and is high speed but still can take over an hour to get to the scene.
In our area in Victoria we dont realise the ease at which we can get rescue units to a scene
ANY OPINION I MAY STATE IN ANY POST IS PURELY MY OWN THOUGHTS AND IN NO WAY REFLECTIVE OF, OR A STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF MY BRIGADE! |
