apparently this is taking place at 10am Healesville Hall. Wednesday. For about an hour.

i find it most concerning that a federal MP can be exploiting her position to clearly spruik one brand over others when live trialling is still being conducted. i urge any site members who may be attending to take all statements with a pinch of salt.
the australian representative of this company has already caused upset and concern with injudicious comments in the press and exaggerated claims of effectiveness which are clearly contradicted by the makers website.
for professional reasons i will refrain from making further comment in advance of the testing results being published at a later date but i am prepared to intimate that the report will be worth waiting for. we don't want to sign up for another myki or seasprite debacle, or dare i say it (the technology being ex-luftwaffe) something akin to the lockheed F104G !

a late 60's german joke:

"if you want to buy a starfighter just buy an acre of ground AND WAIT"

before anybody accuses me of being biased please consider that i currently use several german products because they are simply the best. a peaked cap that won't blow off in 100+km winds, a small pair of CZJ 8x30 binoculars and uvex sun/safety glasses.

As I recall This MP won the election after a recount and won by less than 5 votes, they had lost about 4% of voters since last election.

Is it an election year?

The technology was developed by the German Aerospace Institute for NASA's Mars Pathfinder mission, and is now used for the long-range early detection of bushfires.

How many bushfires do they have on Mars?

neither do they have farmers on tractors, ground to air evaporation, willy-willys, power stations, low coastal cloud and mist, flights of cockatoos, large groups of motorbikes/4wds on bush tracks etc etc etc. so it never gave false alarms either.

i've got a piece of rock here that keeps tigers away too !

40km range of detection dependent on topography........hmmm that's something I'd like to see in person!

5-10km range is OK, even 15km, but 40km? I don't think so!!!!

Hmmm, I could but I don't want to bore you and others with a diatribe about other detection systems that I have been researching for past 12 months as it's awfully complex, boring and usually full of sales hype.

Have a look at http://www.firebreakcanada.com for a start.

I nearly got sucked in by a mob until I read their terms and conditions of sale which at the very least prevented me from (a) having their product tested independently here in Australia or at Missoula, (Cool was not Telstra or ACMA approved let alone C-ticked, (c) servicing faults should they occur - everything had to go back to Canada or the US and the list of restrictions went on and on.

Similar restrictions were also placed upon orders from another US mob who have an office in a Melbourne suburb. They thumb their noses at the Trade Practices Act, The Goods Act and Contracts Act. Typical American get rich quick schemes based on questionable engineering that have scant and/or arrogant regard for other business practices and the laws of the countries they are dealing with!
